Since the last blog was about dreams I think I will talk about ghosts. I am not inclined to believe in such things but my mothers aunt was a nursing sister in a large old nursing home in Liverpool. She was on the night shift and all was quiet. She walked into the corridor to check that all was in order and saw a man at the far end. He had a long grey coat on and she didn’t recognise him. She immediately went for two more nurses to come with her to challenge the man and find out who he was. As the three of them walked along the corridor towards the man he passed through the wall and disappeared. Obviously they were quite shocked by this and the following morning they told the sister on the day shift. She seemed to know about this and said that they must not tell anyone else.
The following evening one of the residents called for the nurse and asked her to come because there was a man sitting in his chair. As the nurse entered the room the man in the chair vanished. The resident whose chair it was let out a swear word.
I am unable to offer any explanation as to how any of this might have happened but my mothers aunt was quite convinced that she had seen a ghost.
On another occasion my mother was standing at the bus stop waiting for a bus and a dog was roaming about at the other side of the road. Suddenly the dog froze and stared at something. The dog then ran down the road yelping although as far as my mother could see there was nothing that could have caused this. Another man in the bus queue said that the man who had owned the dog had died some months before and suggested that the dog had seen his ghost.
I believe that there are things which we don’t understand and perhaps we shouldn’t try to understand them. The Bible says that there are things which we should not dabble in and without doubt there are people who have suffered mental and physical harm by getting involved in the occult. There are other things like telepathy and water divining, which I don’t understand but there is clearly something happening which we can’t explain.
