Just imagine this…. it’s 4.25am and down the street a car alarm is going off – woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! After lying there for a few minutes hoping that it will stop I decided I better go and see if it is a car at our house. So found my dressing gown and plodded downstairs to see. I was relieved it wasn’t one of ours but then whose was it. woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo!
I got back in bed listening to it serenade me a bit longer – woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo - and getting madder and madder. Why is it that only I can hear it? woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! Why doesn’t the owner switch it off? woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! When will it stop? woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! Think I’m gonna scream! aaaaaahhhhhhh – but better not as mum is sleeping (through the car alarm) and I’d wake her up.
Well I can’t lie here listening to this much longer – woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! I could ring the police but that means I need to get up again and go downstairs to get a phone number. Can I bothered? – woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! – yes! I found the dressing gown again and off I go to find a phone book. Meanwhile – woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo!
I spoke to a nice police man who seemed quite shocked at being rung at 4.30 in the morning. I explained that the alarm was going off and it sounded as though it was right outside my window. He originally said he couldn’t do anything about it but by law it should stop after 20 minutes but why didn’t they switch it off! I didn’t have the answer to that except if it had woken me so why hasn’t it woken them. He agreed that it did seem a bit strange so would get someone in the area to drive past and off he went!
I laid back down now listening to mum snoring through the wall and the woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! from down the street.
And then ……. the alarm stopped ….. bliss!
Well that was ok until 7.30am when it started again…woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo, woo ooo! Luckily it stopped almost instantly so I turned over and went back to sleep. Sigh!
Then my bedroom door is being opened, mum stood there a few minutes and then quietly shut the door again. It disturbed me enough to know it had happened but I was still in my dream so unable to respond. So I just led there cursing – why is she trying to wake me up, why can’t I just sleep in peace? grrrrr! I’m not good at being woken up as those who have done it wll know!
I finally looked at the clock and can’t believe it – 2.15pm. I decided I had better drag myself out of bed. When I got downstairs and asked what mum had wanted, I was a little surprised at the reply. She was checking to see if I was dead or not!!!!!!
Well I have had my breakfast, or is that lunch or maybe even an early tea and soon it’ll be time for bed again! Please no more car alarms tonight!
Oh, there’s nothing worse than being woken up like that in the middle of the night!
